“The BetterPoints app helps me to take the green option. Most of my travel now is done through walking and cycling. I take the bus if I’m carrying lots.
I don’t own a car anymore. I sold it approximately three years ago, and just before that I’d opted to buy an electric mountain bike through my company’s cycle to work scheme. I’d been recommended cycling by a physio to combat knee problems that I had. My car was also being problematic, and I couldn’t afford the constant repairs, so it had to go.
Cycling helps with my mental health. If I’ve had a stressful day at work, I can cycle home and by the time I’m back I can’t even remember what I was stressed about. Not only that, I’ve lost about three stone in weight
Now I’m getting a bit older, I want to do more exercise and improve my cardio. With cycling and walking I continue to achieve my goals every day. In the four years I’ve had the bike, I’ve covered around 5,000km. I love riding on the South Downs. I’m not too far from Devil’s Dyke, so getting up there in the summer is lovely.
I’ve got two adult kids, and I’m trying to encourage them to be greener and not use a car. They’re now both taking sustainable options, which I’d like to think is my influence! We’ve always tried to be a green family, and the fact it’s easier and cheaper to get the bus into town than drive is great.
Whenever I’ve had any issues with the app, I email BetterPoints and it’s sorted within 24 hours which is brilliant."
